The Witcher comes to Netflix!

Most of you who know me, know I am a gamer at heart. I have talked about this on two occasions here and here. Well, one game that has captured my imagination of late, is Witcher 3. Now, I want to play the other games, but just haven’t gotten around to them yet. And now, they are bringing the greatness of the Witcher world to Netflix!

Game of Thrones fans

If you enjoy Game of Thrones, I believe you will enjoy the Witcher series, IF Netflix does it right. If you are unfamiliar with The Witcher, it is a series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Here are the books in their proper order.

Witcher, reading order, books

It is also a series of games by CD Projekt Red.
I haven’t read the books, yet. They are on my TBR list, (it’s a big list) so I can’t go into much detail about what they contain, but if the game world is any indication of what the show will be like, it’s going to be pretty awesome. They’ll have to have more magic at play than what you see in Game of Thrones.

Geralt of Rivia

Geralt of Rivia, Witcher 3, The Witcher

The protagonist of the game is Geralt, a Witcher. A man who was stripped of emotions when he was a child and forged into a monster slayer called…a witcher. (Convenient that.) He has some limited magic abilities that he uses and some potions that he drinks. In this world there are elves, dwarves, halflings, werewolves, all kinds of undead creatures such as wights, wraiths, and ghouls. There are trolls, vampires of all types, dopplers, drowners, and the list goes on.

Politics…

As if Geralt doesn’t have enough to do battling the monsters for money, there are kings and kingdoms and spies, and all kinds of politics that generally get him into trouble. His lover of yore, Yennefer, keeps him busy with these political tasks that he’d rather not get involved with.

There is an array of characters to love and hate.

Zoltan the dwarf is great, and they better put Gaunter O’Dimm in the series. He is by far one of the creepiest fantasy characters I have ever come across. Here is a man that knows that time is the secret ingredient for baking gingerbread, and yet can cook your very soul, all while whistling the merriest of tunes.

Meet Gaunter O’Dimm.

We have Eskel and Lambert, Witchers from the School of the Wolf, and Geralt’s comrades. Triss Merigold the mage. Too many list.

Eskel

Eskel, Witcher 3, The Witcher

Then we have Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, the white flame dancing on the grave of his foes. He is so full of himself, I hate him. I hate the sight of him.

Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, The Witcher, Witcher 3

King Radovid, who treats magic wielders with brutality, burning them at the stake. Sigismund Dijkstra the spy, who is easily hated but can be likeable.
If they do this right, it has the potential to be nice replacement for Game of Thrones once its final season is over.

Henry Cavill

Yes, the Man of Steel himself has said he would love to play the lead role in the series because he loves the books and game so much. I think this would be a boon to the series and I believe that Cavill has the acting chops to pull off the role. My only issue with Cavill is that he may not have a gravelly enough voice to be the White Wolf, the Butcher of Blaviken, Geralt of Rivia.

All in all, my Game of Thrones friends, I think we have a winner here. I am excited about this series! C’mon Netflix! Hurry it up already! The release date is suspected to be 2020 ☹

So, a year and a half? I guess we’ll see.

We will still have Game of Thrones to watch during 2019, when its last season airs.

What about you my nerdy friends? What are your thoughts on Game of Thrones last season and The Witcher as a possible replacement? Let me know!

Did you guys check out the Irishman movie yet? You have to have Netflix though to watch it. I’m most excitited by the fact that it was produced by Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese. If those two were involved you know it’s going to be good.

Have you watched Netflix new show Marriage Story? It’s starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. I really enjoyed the both of them in the show. This was a very sad show though.

I was really surprised that Joe Pisci was nominated for a Golden Globe but Robert De Niro wasnt!. I mean he was good in The Irishman but De Niro I think was better. Don’t you agree??

I haven’t watched The Irishman all the way through yet so I don’t know, but I do tend to agree that De Niro is the better actor.
