This is my attempt at a song for my Earth Mother saga, it is probably more of a poem, per se’. It reflects the culture of those mountain folk of Dall Shùil, how they lived and what they believed. I wanted it to hearken back to that time of folklore, when mystery still ruled our minds and imaginations. Let me know what you think!
Tis the mountain cold and tall
That breathed life into us all
Ever watchful, it never sleeps
Upon the mountain, our souls it keeps
North and South the winds they do blow
What they bring no one can know
Whether good or bad we have no say
Yet with bold courage we face each day
We are the Fiohainn, it is our way
Among the evergreens we dance and sway
To thank the Spirits of Tree and Stone
Who gave us the mountains we call home
O mountains tall, O mountains dear
In its embrace we know no fear
Tis upon this land our babes are born
Tis upon this land our sheep are shorn
From dawn to dusk yes, we must toil
To earn our keep from the mountain’s soil
The mountain blesses, and it provides
Yet all must work, it is how we survive
We are the Fiohainn, it is our way
Among the evergreens we dance and sway
To thank the Spirits of Tree and Stone
Who gave us the mountains we call home
Basil, bay, clove and dill
We leave upon our windowsill
Ancient is that protective charm
Keeping all inside from any harm
When we fall into nature’s sleep
Our souls return to the mountain’s keep
Do not fret, despair or cry
Each, my love, has their turn to die
We are the Fiohainn, it is our way
Among the evergreens we dance and sway
To thank the Spirits of Tree and Stone
Who gave us the mountains we call home
