This is a brief history of the Ages or the timeline if you will, of the world leading up to Tabitha’s time in The Bloodstone Reckoning. I will add these by the Age they represent. This is the first Age of Men. There are many stories to be told here and I will not go into those, just the ones with the most impact.

There is much telling here and not much showing for the expediency of time. Perhaps once Tabitha’s tale is finished, I will write out these stories, they are as important as hers, maybe moreso, but alas hers must be told for it is what drives me onward. The Rider defeated for all time? Yes, that is a story worth telling. Perhaps I am wrong in my assertion that others are as important as hers, for if she does not win, then the Earth and its inhabitants are doomed to chaos and slavery.

And so I do record here the first age of men.

Timeline of Ages

The Creator brought forth the world into being and creatures also. Majestic Dragons, fierce Manticores, and all manner of noble and proud creatures did the creator make. In this world of Its design, the Creator sought to make a place of wondrous beauty. But this beauty came at a price. For in creating this place, there came also with good, evil. With light, darkness. For one follows the other regardless of the Creator’s power or will.
After many thousands upon thousands of years, even hundreds of thousands of years, perhaps millions of years, the Creator brought forth creatures called Man. And with Man, came Freewill. Freewill brought with it destruction and chaos for men will ever choose the wrong path.

This is the First Age of Men

The Treuntas Age, the Age of Power. The First Age of Men and Magic. Magic was first discovered by those who were born to it and later by those that could touch it. It was raw and untamed. Mythical creatures roamed the Earth then. Dragons, Wyverns, Manticore, and all manner of other creatures. Magic-born even tried to create creatures of their own, some failed, some succeeded. The winged horse is such a creature, as is the griffin, its close relative the hippogriff, the gargoyles, many others.

Men and women rose to power in this age, and all Magic-born were considered High-born. They wielded all power and ruled. Great societies of learning were founded during this age. But it was not to last, as power corrupts. The War of Allvaldr took place. Allvadr means sovereign. One ruler. The mage, Lyblac, wished to rule all and raised a Magic-born army to follow him. Other mages stood against him. Chiefly, Wydran, known as Wydran the Wise. This war ended when Lyblac was killed by Wydran, with a force of power that destroyed both mages. Lyblac’s followers were hunted down and destroyed.

There was peace for a while

Many years passed, nearly two thousand before another war broke out. This time it was Magic-born versus Low-born (as the non-Magic users were called). A Low-born named Drefed the Slayer riled up the Low-born in a city where a Magic-born had killed a Low-born but no justice was brought about. The Low-born were incited by Drefed to rise up and destroy those who considered themselves “better” than them. That the world should belong to those without Magic as there were more of them. That Magic-born have no place in the world, they are oddities and should be considered freaks. The flames of envy were fanned and Magic-born were killed in the thousands, cities and libraries were burnt to the ground during this time.

The mages fought back in a last great battle

The numbers were against the Magic-born and so they used power of great devastation. Mountains were leveled and cities were brought to ruin under the will of mages but they could not overcome the numbers of Low-born and so they retreated. The Low-born, destroyed any writings, manuscripts, scrolls, tablets, and parchments that were not considered “common knowledge.” Peace was not to be found and much was destroyed. The knowledge of Magic was nearly extinguished from the world. Thus shifting the world into a dark age known as the Deatharra Age. The second age of men and magic.
