Hello again readers, I know I don’t update near as often as I should but I promise you progress is being made. There have been some changes to the book. The title has changed to The Darkness Rising. It may change again but I doubt it. Also I have changed chapter 1, that I have previously posted, it is now chapter 2. Chapter 1 will be what was the prologue. I will post it here for your reading pleasure. 🙂

(P.S. If you are new here and have not read book one, The Bloodstone Reckoning, you can find a link below.)

The Darkness Rising

Chapter One

Merfyn Kendrick watched in horror at what had happened to Eldwin Drake. He had run and hid when his master had called out to him for help. Now, something was near him. A shadow, a darkness, an entity. He ran, slipped, fell to the ground, rolled, popped up and continued running. He looked behind, turned and slammed into a tree. When his eyes opened again, the shadow was before him. A shimmering dark mass absorbing the light around it. He kicked at the ground trying to get up but the leaves were slick, he slipped, landed, slipped again and stared up at the shade. The shadow groaned and in his head, Merfyn heard a voice.
“Merfyn Kendrick…attend me.”
“L—L—Lord Camulus?”
“I am fading from this world. I have need of you Merfyn Kendrick.”
“Of—of me?”
“Yes, of you. You are weak, but you will suffice. Allow me to enter.”
Merfyn considered the shade before him. Power, would this convey power to him? Would he become what Lord Drake had sought?
Power, yes, I can give you all the power you need.
Merfyn trembled, so far nothing had turned out like he had planned. Lord Drake was dead. He could not go back and face The Sovereign, they would know of his part in this. There was nothing at home for him. A menial job, assuming he was allowed to live. Death might be better than his shallow existence. Merfyn trembled as thoughts of dying filled his mind. The cruel end that the High Inquisitor would give him sent black sensations up and down his spine. He stood and bowed his head.
“Enter?”
“Yes, Merfyn, enter. I am between two planes of existence. I will not be here long if you do not allow me to enter. I will slip back into the Void and the power you seek will be gone. Help me and great shall be your reward.”
Merfyn had heard that before and had not turned out well. He sighed. Again, he weighed the choices before him. They were not good. He was a nothing, a nobody, a servant to his betters. But now, maybe that would change. He nodded and looked up at the shadow before him.
“Enter, Lord Camulus.”
And Merfyn Kendrick screamed…

Very good blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring
writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little
lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress
or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely confused ..
    Any recommendations? Cheers!

I would choose a paid for platform, mainly because of marketing. It’s your domain and you have complete control, plus the name is your brand. There are many good options out there, I have heard good things about Go Daddy and I use Bluehost. Thank you for the kind words, have a good one 🙂
